Musicals

Hello lovelies,
It was suggested for me to write about something I love so I should probably write about musical theatre. I do not normally write blog posts so bare with me, please. Ummm…I have been interested in musical theatre and honestly just theatre in general since I was a child I guess. However, it wasn’t until recently that I really developed and acted upon these interests. When I was in middle school I was in the drama class and the after school drama club where I was able to learn about the different techniques of acting. In drama club, I acted in the plays/musicals that we put on. I was Nana (the dog), a mermaid, and a pirate in Peter Pan. Additionally, I was casted as the role for Lefou in Beauty and The Beast where I had to sing. When I got to high school I joined the theatre club at my school (International Thespian Society) where I competed in our district's competition with a group of 7 girls and danced in a small group musical number with the song “Blow Gabriel Blow” in Anything Goes. That same year I was inducted as a member of the society for life. The next year, due to classes I was only able to participate in the club and not compete. The following year though I competed in Districts with a solo singing “When He Sees Me” from the musical Waitress and a duet with a friend titled “First Date/Last Night” from the musical Dogfight. I did not make it to States with my acts, however, I kept trying and I sang “Right Hand Man” from Something Rotten as a solo at the colleges’ showcase along with singing the song as a duet at the high schools show case the next night. Currently, I am the co-president of International Thespian Society and I am working on joining the theatre on campus. I am droning on about my experience so let me talk about my favorite musicals and songs and the shows I have seen.
My favorite part about musicals and plays is the way that the audiences feels the emotions of the characters in the shows. Reading plays does not do the play as much justice as much as seeing the plays in person. In person, you are able to see their facial expressions, reactions, body language, and hear the tone of their voices change. In musicals, there are so many emotions that play a part in the songs that each character sings. In my opinion, it is my favorite way to hear a story told. I have only seen a couple of musicals in person including Guys and Dolls, Wicked, Cinderella, and Into the Woods. In each of these musicals every character was so developed each having their own personality. My favorite musicals are The Lion King, Wicked, Les Miserables, Hamilton, Into the Woods, Grease, Hairspray, Rent, Newsies, Waitress, Be More Chill, Something Rotten, and Dear Evan Hanson. These musicals have had an impact on my life and how I see the world. I love musical theatre and want to share my love of musical theatre with you lovely ladies. I don’t know how to end this. Hope you all have a great day.
